Izumi Soko Masakazu DiesIzumi Soko Masakazu, the previous Grand Master Sen Genshitsu's son and contemporary Grand Master Zabosai Sen Soshitsu's younger brother, died at the age of 44 early in the morning on 2 February, 2003.
The funeral took place on 12 February, 2003, in the main Temple of Daitokuji complex in Kyoto. The ceremony was served by the superior of Daitokuji - monk Fukutomi Settei. About 6000 mourners, including the family and relatives, governmental and cultural representatives, Urasenke followers and others, came to say good bye to the deceased. The service was introduced by the previous Grand Master Sen Genshitsu and Grand Master Sen Soshitsu XVI who ceremonially prepared tea and put the tea cups in front of the picture of the deceased. The ceremony was followed by reading condolences by the mayor and other representatives of the city of Kyoto, by the prime minister Junichiro Koizumi, by the president of NHK Katsuji Ebisawa and others. Then monks sang sutras, the mourners put flowers in front of the picture of the deceased and prayed. In the end, the Grand Master Sen Soshitsu XVI gave thanks to the present. Izumi Soko Masakazu was posthumously awarded by the Buddhist name and titul - Tansensai Gekkan Soko Koji. | |
